Student concessions

Travel concession

If you are a full-time Curtin student, you are entitled to a Tertiary SmartRider card, which gives you concessional fares on Transperth buses, trains and ferries. Please note that the SmartRider card remains separate to your Student Identification (ID) Card and you must have a valid Tertiary SmartRider card in your possession to receive concessional fares on public transport.

In previous years, if you were enrolled in full-time study at Curtin you needed to complete an 'Application for Tertiary SmartRider (Metropolitan)' form and have it endorsed by a university staff member in order to purchase a Tertiary SmartRider card. You were also required to submit one of these forms every year to renew your tertiary concession.

From July 2012 you may register your existing SmartRider card online, through your OASIS account, and your enrolment information will be sent to Transperth on a regular basis. This means that you will just need to register your Smartrider card once and you will continue to receive the tertiary concession for as long as you maintain a full-time enrolment at Curtin (a minimum of 75 credits per semester or study period).

To obtain a new SmartRider card or register an existing card online, follow the easy steps below.

Purchase a new Tertiary SmartRider

You can purchase a new SmartRider card from any SmartRider outlet in Perth for $10. Until you register your card with Curtin University, you will be charged the standard fares for all public transport.

Alternatively, if you can prove you are a full-time student on purchase, the Curtin Bookshop sells SmartRiders pre-registered with the tertiary concession for $5*. Please note, this registration will only last for 7 days. You will need to register your card to continue receiving the concession rate.

To prove you’re a full-time student (have a minimum of 75 enrolled credits per semester or study period), you will need to print your enrolment advice from eStudent:

  1. Log into OASIS.
  2. Click on the My Studies tab at the top of your OASIS window.
  3. Click on the eStudent banner.
  4. Once in eStudent, click on the My Enrolment tab.
  5. From the left hand menu, click View Current Enrolment.
  6. Click on the Email Enrolment Advice button. Your Enrolment Advice will be automatically emailed to your Curtin provided student email address.
  7. Open and print your Enrolment Advice.

If you are a full-time research student you will need to visit Student Central to obtain proof of your enrolment to take to the Bookshop.

A minimum of $10 credit must be added to your card at the time of purchase.

*You will receive the initial concession for a period of seven days but please allow up to two days for processing once you have registered your card in OASIS.

Register your SmartRider for Tertiary concession

  1. Log into OASIS.
  2. Click on the Campus Life and Guild tab.
  3. Click on the SmartRider Concession Registration button.
  4. Enter your SmartRider number.
  5. Check the box that you consent to your data being sent to Transperth.
  6. Click Submit.

Activate your concession

Activate your concession within 7 days of registering in OASIS by using your card on any Transperth service. If you do not do so within the time period, you will need to reactivate your concession request by first using your SmartRider card to "tag on " , and then using your card again within 2-7 days. You will be charged full standard fares (non-refundable) until your concession has been activated.

Your enrolment details will be sent to Transperth on a regular basis and you will continue to receive the tertiary concession as long as you maintain a full-time enrolment at Curtin (75 or more credits).

If you lose your card and purchase a new Smartrider, simply follow the steps above to register your new Smartrider against your personal details.

Part-time students (enrolled in less than 75 credits per semester or study period)

Part-time students are not entitled to tertiary concessional fares, however you can still purchase a standard Smartrider at any Transperth InfoCentre or authorised SmartRider Retail Sales Outlet, including the Curtin University Bookshop. A standard SmartRider can be purchased for $10 and a minimum of $10 credit must be added to your card at the time of purchase.

For more information about Transperth or the SmartRider please refer to the SmartRider website.

Guild concessions

Full members of the Curtin Guild can obtain concession at a range of organised services on and off campus.  You will need to join the Student Guild with a Full Guild Membership package.

Other concessions

The Student 2013 sticker is useful for obtaining student concessions for off campus activities (excluding travel and Guild services). This sticker does not prove whether you are a full time or part time student, only that you are currently enrolled at Curtin.
